The Spirits of Equality

help equality

Since the creation of the universe Light and Darkness were battling
for the ultimate rule in the world. Everyone was involved to a
certain extent and noone ever believed that there could be a third
force in the world equally important.
But then - one ordinary day - the third power introduced itself to
a man called Victor who lived in a small village called Panhold. And
the power is EQUALITY, the power of the balance between Light and
Darkness and Victor was appointed the first Spirit of Equality - as
the members of this new force are called.
The power of the Spirits is the balance amongst their members. Only
little mental strength they need to use their spiritual powers, when
the world of the Spirits is fairly well balanced.
Those who want to become a spirit go to Victor and let him know. He
then introduces them to the powers of Equality if he finds real
balance in their souls.

The Spirits of Equality

The Spirits of Equality are an odd guild, started by the now-vanished Essen, taken over by the largely-vanished Krayze, and now somewhat overseen by Garlix.

The Spirits have a number of interesting qualities. At least in theory, a Spirit who works hard can have both attack and defense strength - not the best of either on the mud, but still reasonably strong. Spirits tend to be concerned about two factors which make the guild particularly vulnerable:

1. It's possible for Bath or BO to find kills which primarily fit their align needs--but it's impossible for spirits; very few monsters are neutral. To be a Spirit means to align constantly and ceaselessly.

2. Because the alignment of any single player affects the entire guild's abilities, only one player can kill at a time.

If you're interested in this guild, you might want to speak to an existing Spirit about the current state of the guild, how many members there are active at a given time, and what the experience of being a Spirit is like.

The Spirit quest starts in the town of Panhold, which is near Silverbane's dread castle.

Guild Skills

The Spirits are perhaps well-known for their Octostrike, in which they do a temporary attack using eight weapons at once.

They also have the Illusion, a minor defensive spell which can, with patience, by raised into a fairly strong defense.

Spirits also have the ability to Concentrate On living beings and figure out their alignment with fairly reasonable precision. This is invaluable for aligning!

Advancement

All Spirit skills are based on Wisdom, so a high Wisdom is a must.

However, this is made more challenging by the fact that your (natural, unmodified) Intelligence needs to be higher than your (unmodified) Wisdom at all times - otherwise, you begin to lose levels in your Spirit skills very, very rapidly.

If your Wisdom is high enough, you can advance a skill by gaining sufficient experience in that skill, using it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. It is not true that Essen's original inspiration for this comes from the fact that he is an ageless being who likes sitting around for centuries and watching glaciers move. At least, we think it isn't.
